I think it is a good exercise to look at this situation from a rule-based perspective by looking at the clothing company American Apparel. It was founded in California and is based on the importance of living wages and factory production in Los Angeles. Is rule-based morality realistic and practical in today's world? I think yes. American Apparel is now a booming company and shows off their employees and working conditions on its website. The employees are treated fairly and the work is not outsourced. The company provides legitimate jobs for Americans while producing quality products.

Excellent post. Just a point; radicals (Marxists) would argue that the outsourcing of jobs is done by corporate and capitalistic elites (in both core and semi-peripheral states) at the expense of the working classes all over As a result, they would be opposed to off-shoring on principle.

Each situation was handled at its time period appropriately; the fact that Cuba is isolated till this days does not effect America at all. However, if China is isolated the American Economy would suffer a devastating blow due to the amount of American money is invested in the Chinese economy. My personal fear is that with the aid American economy China will position itself into such an economical niche that it will surpass Americas political and economical strength. One was for America to reverse the effect is to strengthen their relationship with China , and cutting back on the cost in Germany and Japan ( the two notation that are modern enough to sustain their own military budget instead of relying on America)

Hi. Interesting post. There is always an important dilemma that arises when dealing with regimes that are not very democratic: to engage or to isolate. There are good arguments for both, and the US, for example, has chosen both, as is the case with Cuba (isolation) and China (engagement). The hope was that giving the Olympics to China would make China become a better international citizen. Has it worked? What do you think?
